Compulsory Motor Insurance Glossary

  • Compulsory Motor Insurance (Protection for Motor Vehicle Accident Victims Act)

    Required by law for all vehicles registered with the Department of Land Transport. It is designed to protect road accident victims—whether they are drivers, passengers, or pedestrians. This coverage is divided into two categories.

    1. 1.Preliminary Compensation: Paid immediately without the need to determine fault, as follows: 1.1 Medical expenses, actual cost up to 30,000 THB 1.2 Death, loss of organ or permanent disability 35,000 THB Maximum preliminary limit 65,000 THB
    2. 2.Compensation Beyond the Preliminary Limit: The compensation amount exceeding the preliminary compensation. This will be paid only to drivers proven not at fault, or to passengers in the vehicle, as follows: 2.1 Medical expenses, actual cost up to 80,000 THB 2.2 Loss of organ or permanent disability 200,000-500,000 THB 2.3 Death 500,000 THB 2.4 Daily compensation 200 THB per day, for up to 20 days (in case of inpatient hospitalization) Note: Maximum total coverage limit 504,000 THB per person, subject to a maximum of 20,000,000 THB per accident (applicable to all vehicle types).
  • Road Accident Victims Protection Company Limited

    The central organization responsible for processing and paying claims under compulsory motor insurance for road accident victims.

  • Vehicle Tax Disk

  • Car Tax - Motorcycle Tax

    The annual fee that vehicle owners must pay to the Department of Land Transport. Cars or motorcycles can only renew their annual vehicle tax after purchasing the compulsory motor insurance.
